Seminario "Future Trends in Computer Science and Technology"
In this talk, Dr. Sharma will discuss the emerging frontiers in Information Technology. Some of the areas that will be covered include Cloud Computing, Imaging and Visual Computing, Intelligent Information Systems, Cyber Security, Sensor Networks and Mobile Computing, Smart Infrastructures, Smart Grid, Social Computing, and Wireless Medicine. These emerging technologies will have a profound impact on the lives of people every where. Over the last two decades, information technologies have created economic wealth in every part of the world and have opened opportunities for entrepreneurs everywhere. However, we are still in the infancy of realizing the full potential of the IT. These new technologies are transformative and will shape the world in a new way.
Dr. Satya Sharma is the Executive Director of the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology ( CEWIT) at Stony Brook University. CEWIT has 300 Ph.D. students conducting research. Prior to his present assignment, he was Director at Bell Labs and the former Senior Vice President at Symbol (Motorola). He was Global President of Bilcare Technologies of India in 2009-2010. He led Lucent to win the Deming Prize in 1994, (the only manufacturing company in the western hemisphere to win this coveted prize) and two Shingo Prizes for Excellence in Manufacturing, one for Lucent in 1992 and another for Symbol in 2003. Under his leadership, Symbol won The National Medal of Technology from President Clinton in year 2000. He also led Lucent to win the US Senate Productivity Award in 1991 and Environmental Award from President Bush in 1992. Dr. Sharma has managed technology development at Symbol in New York, San Jose, Japan, Singapore Mexico and India and at Bell Labs in New Jersey, Ohio, Texas, Massachusetts,Pennsylvania, Virginia and Mexico. He established Symbol’s software center in India and its manufacturing facility in Mexico. Dr. Sharma has managed technology, led product development, managed marketing and financial functions, led operations and has taken a leadership role in organizational transformation. Dr. Sharma holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA degree from Ohio State University.
